Volunteer in the West Midlands

Finding Volunteering Opportunities in the West Midlands

Volunteering with organisations that prevent or relieve homelessness is a practical way to support the West Midlands Combined Authority’s Positive Pathway model. The model recognises that lasting change happens when people have not only safe housing, but also connection, purpose, and a sense of belonging. Volunteers help to build these foundations by offering time, skills, and encouragement at every stage of someone’s journey, from crisis support to independent living. Across the region, volunteers play a vital part in creating welcoming spaces, delivering essential services, and strengthening the networks that help people move forward with confidence.

Many of the organisations listed on Street Support West Midlands offer volunteering opportunities throughout the year.
By giving your time, you can help them prevent or relieve homelessness in your local area.

Other volunteering opportunities

The best place to find out about local volunteering opportunities is through the Voluntary Sector Councils in each local authority area. These organisations work closely with charities, community groups, and public services to connect people who want to help with projects that make a real difference.

Alongside these local networks, there are two larger platforms helping people find opportunities that match their skills and interests.

Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) launched a new national volunteering platform in autumn 2025, bringing together a wide range of opportunities—from supporting older people to helping in hospitals and community hubs. It’s designed to make volunteering simple, accessible, and flexible for everyone. You can explore current roles at royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk.

Do IT is another helpful online platform where charities and community groups advertise thousands of volunteering roles across the country, including many in the West Midlands. It’s a great place to search by location, interest, or time commitment.
Visit doit.life to find something that suits you.

Together, these networks and platforms make it easier than ever to get involved, give your time, and strengthen the communities that make the West Midlands such a generous and connected place to live.

Every hour given by a volunteer helps to strengthen the community response to homelessness across the West Midlands. Whether someone is offering practical support, sharing skills, or simply giving time to listen, these small acts build trust and connection that make recovery possible. Together, volunteers and local organisations bring the Positive Pathway model to life, creating the stable foundations that allow people to move from crisis towards independence.

If you are part of an organisation in the West Midlands whose work prevents or relieves homelessness, and you are currently seeking funding, items or volunteers for a specific project or service, we would love to hear from you and include your organisation in our Give Help posts.
