Homelessness and rough sleeping. What Reading is doing.

By James Cross

At Reading’s Housing, Neighbourhoods and Leisure Committee on 3rd July, Reading’s Homelessness Partnerships Team provided a ‘whistle-stop’ summary to Council Members of all their current and future projects to keep them up to date with the services and provisions in Reading that support people who are sleeping rough and people at risk of homelessness.

The launch of Street Support Reading partnership and platform was a key feature of the presentation, as well as covering Council commissioned services, Rough Sleeping Initiative interventions and other MHCLG funded projects that Reading have implemented over the last couple of years.

Reading is always trying to find new and innovative ways to support vulnerable people which include the newly formed Street Support Reading partnership, introducing Making Every Adult Matter (MEAM) and exciting new projects such as St Mungo’s Recovery College which is due to open in September 2019.

Cross-party support for the initiatives and projects the team have led on or been involved with to support people who are rough sleeping was evident, with particular interest and positive comment upon the Street Support Reading partnership and how this might develop.
